Uniting Canadian Cosmetics and Bringing it to the World
Neo Naturelle is a new skincare company dedicated to promoting healthy, confident aging through its innovative pro-aging skincare products. The company's origins trace back to a deeply personal journey, ignited by the founder's desire to create safe and effective skincare solutions for her daughter, Marina, during her pregnancy. When Marina became pregnant, she sought skincare products that were not only clean and safe but also effective, prompting her mother to step in and formulate products specifically for her needs. This effort resulted in products that resonated not only with Marina but also with her friends and family, who were impressed by their quality and effectiveness. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response and the visible results, the founder realized there was a broader demand for skincare that prioritized health and safety without compromising on effectiveness. Thus, Neo Naturelle was born, with a mission to share these transformative products with a wider audience. We interview company founder Nila Cook about her journey to building a skincare brand in a post-covid cosmetic market. 1. What inspired you to get into the world of cosmetics?
My passion for skincare has been a significant part of my life for many years. The pivotal moment was when my daughter, Marina, became pregnant and sought clean, safe, but effective skincare products. She asked me to formulate something for her, and both she and her friends loved it so much that we decided to share it with others, leading to the creation of our company. Since then, our company has evolved into focusing on pro-aging. 2. Why did you choose the concept of Pro-Aging rather than Anti-Aging? As women, we constantly face societal pressure to stay young, which is an unrealistic expectation. It's time to bring positivity to aging, as it brings confidence, wisdom, and life experience. We want to celebrate the skin you've lived in, helping you look your best rather than younger. The pro-aging movement embraces your age and promotes self-acceptance and confidence. As Neo Naturelle, we are here to help you age gracefully. I love and respect every customer of mine for what they have experienced in life. Every imperfection in their skin tells a story, and some of them are very heart-wrenching. I will never ask my customers to get rid of wrinkles or scars—they are part of their life journey, and I cherish that. 3. You worked in the food tech industry—how did it differ from cosmetics, and did it impact how you run your business? The food industry is highly regulated, from hygiene and sanitation to labeling compliance, quality programs, and food safety standards like HACCP and ISO. Considering that the skin is our largest organ and absorbs substances almost as much as our digestive system, I'm surprised that the skincare industry doesn't have comparable regulations. This background has driven our commitment to stringent quality and safety standards in our skincare products. 4. Describe your skincare routine and general skincare philosophy. As a busy businesswoman, mom, and grandma, I understand the need for a quick yet effective skincare routine. For many years, I worked as a national manager for Fortune 500 companies. My schedule was very demanding, with lots of travel. I had only 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening for my skincare routine. That's why, when I was formulating, I considered the fast-paced lives and busy schedules of working women and moms. My daily regimen includes Aqua Harmony Serum with niacinamide, glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid in the morning. In the evening, I use C-Major 23% Vitamin C Serum, followed by one of my multifunctional creams that can be used for the eyes, face, and neck. I exfoliate twice a week with my sugar scrub and add alpha lipoic acid and retinol serum as reinforcement treatments. I also cleanse my face with Neo Soap-Free Cleansing Bar. 5. Ingredients matter—what are your favorite ingredients to work with? Neo Naturelle’s slogan is "botanicals fortified by science." As you can see, I love natural ingredients, but as a scientist, I understand the limitations of natural ingredients. We cannot discard the achievements of science. There is a multitude of safe, clean, and very effective actives that will make a difference in your skin. I always look for innovative ingredients from reputable companies' labs. It is extremely exciting to formulate with something that delivers visual results and has long-term benefits for your skin.
