Module 1 - Cosmetic Industry Foundation
The first week of the program will focus on the basics of the cosmetic industry focusing on the areas of skincare and colour. The basics will set the foundation for understanding the cosmetic industry and helping the participant navigate the complex fast-moving cosmetic environment.
1. Introduction to the Cosmetic Industry - 2 Hours
This is a general overview of the cosmetic industry. We will talk about the industry across the supply chain from raw materials, contract manufacturing to services. This will be the foundation of all the courses in this program.
2. Cosmetic Business Writing Part 1 - 2 Hours
Writing well is one of the most important skills you can develop to be successful in the business. The cosmetic industry is no different. This course will go over different types of business writing that you will encounter in your cosmetic career. This course will introduce business plan writing and you will begin your business plan.

3. Raw Materials in Cosmetic Products - 2 Hours
Raw materials are the building blocks of all cosmetic products. The principal raw materials used for manufacturing cosmetics are oily materials such as oils, fats, wax esters, and ester oils, and surface-active agents are used as emulsifiers, solubilizing agents. The water-soluble ingredients are often humectants or actives. This will be an overview of skincare and colour cosmetic ingredients.

4. Formulations for Skin and Colour Cosmetics - 2 Hours
In this course, we will go over the basics for make-up formulations that combine intense pigments and with properties such as anti-ageing. Skincare formulas will also be reviewed such as skin-protecting balms to relieve dryness and protect from environmental pollutants. The objective is to learn how formulations are developed and how to read formulas.

5. Case Studies – Skincare Brands - 2 Hours
A case study is a detailed study of a specific subject, such as a person, group, event or business. Case studies provide an inside view of how others have succeeded or failed in the industry. It is important to study the footsteps of others to keep up in the industry race. This case study will go over 4 skincare companies that are well established in North America Case studies are essential business research methods for business success. The following companies will be analyzed; Three ships Beauty, Glossier, Elizabeth Grant, and Constant Skincare.
