Oat Oil
Ingredient Sample Information

Oat oil, also known as oat kernel oil or avena sativa oil, is a botanical extract derived from the oat plant (Avena sativa). It is produced by cold-pressing the oat kernels, which yields a rich, golden-hued oil with numerous skin-loving properties. Oat oil has been used for centuries for its nourishing and soothing effects on the skin, making it a popular ingredient in cosmetic formulations.

Oat oil is rich in essential fatty acids, such as oleic acid (omega-9) and linoleic acid (omega-6), which help to maintain the skin's barrier function and retain moisture. It also contains antioxidants like vitamin E, which helps protect the skin from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Additionally, oat oil is renowned for its emollient properties, meaning it forms a protective, moisturizing film on the skin's surface, helping to lock in hydration and maintain a soft, supple complexion. One of the most remarkable benefits of oat oil lies in its ability to soothe and calm sensitive and irritated skin. Oat oil contains natural compounds, including avenanthramides, which have anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds help to reduce redness, itching, and discomfort associated with various skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, and sunburn. The gentle nature of oat oil makes it suitable for all skin types, including those with delicate or reactive skin.

Incorporating Oat Oil in Cosmetic Formulations

Oat oil can be used in various cosmetic products, including:

Moisturizers and Lotions
Oat oil's hydrating and emollient properties make it an excellent addition to moisturizers and lotions, especially those targeted towards dry or sensitive skin. Oat oil can be incorporated into face masks to provide a calming and moisturizing boost to the skin.

Serums
In serums, oat oil's soothing and anti-inflammatory properties can help calm redness and irritation, making it suitable for use in products aimed at calming sensitive skin.

Body Oils
Oat oil can be used as a main ingredient in body oils, offering a nourishing and softening effect on the skin when applied all over the body.

Hair Care Products
Oat oil can also be utilized in hair care products like conditioners and hair serums to promote shine and manageability.

Use: Needs to be added to formula in the oil phase of the emulsions. Use level 1-6% for skin care products, 1-5% for hair care products.

Applications: Creams, lotions, ointments, bath oils, hair care & body care products.

How to Use

  1. Before using the scrub, make sure your skin is clean and slightly damp. You can use the scrub on your body only.
  2. Take a small amount of the scrub in your hands and gently massage it onto your skin in circular motions. Focus on areas that may need more exfoliation, such as elbows, knees, and heels.
  3. Continue massaging the scrub onto your skin for 1-2 minutes to allow the brown sugar and Epsom salts to exfoliate.
  4. Rinse off the scrub thoroughly with warm water, making sure all the sugar granules are washed away.
  5. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel and follow up with the body treatment cream and glow serum to lock in the hydration.
