Now here are more details on one of the most popular studies available.

“HRIPT” stands for “Human Repeat Insult Patch Test” even though over half a century old, is a common testing method in determining irritation, allergic and sensitization potential of a product. It is a confirmatory test in safety evaluations of skin sensitizers. Typically, 50/100/200 subjects are exposed for (9x24-hour or 48-hour) over a three-week period (Induction Phase).

After a two-week break (Rest Phase-week 4 and 5), a challenge exposure is made on both induction and a naïve site, again with a 24/48-hour patch ( Challenge Phase -week 6).

Skin reactions are scored over subsequent days. Variation in the study design include patch type, use of occlusive or semi occlusive patches, length of induction exposures and grading scales.
Advantages

HRIPT testing helps in proving that the product tested minimizes the risk of allergenic reactions and/or skin irritation on a target consumer population. As new ingredients are being added to existing topical formulations making the formulations increasingly complex, or as entirely new formulations are being introduced, the risk of being exposed to allergens is thus more frequent. Ruling out the irritation/ the allergenic potential of a product before it’s market entry therefore assumes prime importance.

Today’s savvy consumers who have all the information available at their fingertips, while seeking truthfulness and honesty of ingredients and claims on the label is also able to make an informed decision while choosing a product, backed by results of a sound clinical safety study.

HRIPT product claims typically includes “Hypo-allergenic”, “Dermatologically tested”, Dermatologist/Paediatrician/Gynaecologist-Approved”, “Non-irritating”, “Allergen Tested”, ”Clinically Tested”, “Safe/Suitable for sensitive skin”, “Suitable for all skin types/tones” and “Safe for skin”.

Come to the experts at PCR for your Safety testing needs to save time and money. Phase 3 trials are expensive, and you do not want to be surprised. So, it very important to conduct the safety testing very early with your product.

Here at Princeton Consumer Research, we pride ourselves on being delay free at all our Global facilities, at peak times these studies are run weekly, we offer fast results within 5 days of study completion and all for a very competitive price.
