Uniting Canadian Cosmetics and Bringing it to the World
The Canadian Cosmetic Cluster is always on the look out for new ingredients. This ingredient was part of the latest ChemBox. It comes from Colombia and is created by EcoFlora. Genipa americana belongs to the Genipa species which can be found in the Caribbean, northern South America, and southern Mexico. It grows in rainforests and is also known as Huito. The Jagua fruit has a high nutritional value with several essential vitamins such as phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin B. The indigenous community in Colombia uses the Jagua fruit as a medicine. To this day the Jagua fruit is often harvested for its dyeing properties. The pigment from the fruit has a deep blue-black color which is similar to traditional tattoos. Jagua blue powder is a natural ingredient (coloring plant extract) obtained from the edible jagua fruit (Genipa americana). This color is stabilized and standardized with proprietary technology developed by Ecoflora and drying by spray dry. This product can be used in multiple applications as cosmetic, personal and home care to provide an appealing natural blue color. It is also high in antioxidant properties making it excellent in skincare, and a booster for FDA/ Health Canada approved pigments.
