Her journey is one marked by innovation, fueled by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a deep understanding of consumer behavior. We asked Bethany to share her vision for the industry and about her cosmetic industry journey. 1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in the world of cosmetics?I'm the Founder and Chief Marketing Consultant at HOENY B, a 360 marketing and communications consultancy catering to the beauty, health and wellness space. I'm particularly interested in working with indie brands and startups, especially with fellow female founders. I grew up wanting to be a fashion journalist, but due to the rocky climate of journalism at the time I was in J school, and a digital space that hadn't quite figured itself out yet, I decided to opt for the marketing and PR route. It took a while experimenting with different industries before finally finding my home in beauty. Since then, I've had the opportunity to hold a variety of roles in the industry before starting HONEY B. 2. What inspired you to start your own podcast, and what do you hope to achieve through it?My podcast BRAND BABY will be launching in Q1 of this year and I'm incredibly excited about it. I decided I wanted to start a podcast due to inspiration I felt having increased the amount of networking I was doing after I went full-time into consulting with HONEY B. There really is a beautiful community of beauty entrepreneurs out there. Those people have become some of my biggest cheerleaders and I'll always be grateful to them. Starting a business can be scary and isolating and connection and supper are essential to stay sane during the process. Everyone has amazing stories that deserve a platform to be shared on. I describe BRAND BABY like if business chats were heart-to-hearts. It's about showcasing the human behind the brand. 3. Can you walk us through your daily skincare routine? Any must-have steps or products?AM: - HydroPeptide Cleansing Gel - TONYMOLY Wonder Ceramide Mochi Toner - DRMTLGY Needleless Serum - Emme Diane Clarifying Serum - Mixsoon Bean Essence - Emme Diane HydraLuxe Cream with a few drops of HydroPeptide Firma-Bright 20% Vitamin C added - EltaMD Clear SPF PM: - Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse - HydroPeptide Cleansing Gel - PCA Hydrating Toner (Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant a few times a week after this step, splashed on) - DRMTLGY Needleless Serum - Paula's Choice Clinical 20% Niacinamide - Sepia Eventide Retinol Renewing Serum - Followed with Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre and HydroPeptide Power-Lock Sleep Mask if my skin is feeling more dry - I spot treat hormonal acne with Emme Diane Acne Eraser 5% Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment Favorite routine supplementers: HydroPeptide Polish & Plump for exfoliating at minimum 1x weekly, Banish Pumpkin Enzyme Mask for hormonal acne, and Curel Deep Moisture spray for dry skin days 4. Can you share some insights into the unique challenges and opportunities in marketing cosmetics?A lot of people talk about how the beauty industry is oversaturated and that can be intimating to a lot of brands or hopeful brand founders. While there are SO many options for consumers to choose from, I think there's still a desire for greater innovation, which typically takes place in the indie realm. My best advice is to focus authenticity and focus on the story of your brand - make sure that is holistic with every product and the way you speak about them. There should be synergy and purpose behind everything you do. Fostering emotional connection through brand narrative can be a major differentiator and allow you time to shine, and prioritizing product efficacy on top of that will help you gain traction. 5. Can you share any exciting plans or future topics you have in mind for your podcast?I really would have never anticipated I'd be someone who would want to host a podcast, but here I am. I'm a natural connector though, so it makes a lot of sense that BRAND BABY is an extension of my business, HONEY B. I'm looking forward to putting my journalism degree to use finally and be interviewing again. I'm excited to share the incredible stories of these people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I'm excited to shine some light on indie brands that don't always get their moment in the spotlight. I'm excited to humanize execs at big corporations and just put some heart back into the beauty business overall.
