Industry Voices With NuVsio Founder

We had the pleasure of recently meeting an innovative Canadian Cosmetic company called NuVsio. NuVsio is founded by Dr. Elena Brei. Her background in Chemical engineering gave her the groundwork to develop amazing formulas. With a focus on wellness and selfcare NuVsio is on its way to conquering the market. Read about the challenges and opportunities that Dr. Brei faced while starting her skincare journey.
1. Please Tell Us About Your Company And Why You Started?

I started NuVsio and its research branch, Dr. Brei Laboratories, almost
by accident while pursuing my Ph.D. at the University of Toronto (U of
T). My doctoral studies spanned various fields, including Chemical
Engineering, Biology, and Genetics, which gave me a unique perspective
on the intricate interplay between water, minerals, and the hidden
microbiome at a fundamental level.

During my seven years of research, I gradually realized that my findings
held the key to addressing a wide range of stubborn skin conditions like
acne, rosacea, and even the aging process. I personally battled several
skin issues and longed for an anti-aging solution, so I decided to apply
my research to myself. Lo and behold, it worked like a charm, and my
skin transformed, becoming healthier and more radiant.

The rest, as they say, is history. I took a bold leap and founded
NuVsio, a company whose name is derived from an old Slavic term for
"Eureka", which I heard often growing up in Ukraine.

Today, we find ourselves at the forefront of in-depth skin health
research. When I started NuVsio, the concept of the microbiome and its
safeguarding and nurturing was a mere theory. Now, we see other
prominent players striving to uncover their own insights into this
critical yet unseen realm. I can't express how heartening this is for
everyone at NuVsio.

Ultimately, we are a skincare company that not only enhances your skin
but also provides the protection necessary for you to continue using all
forms of cosmetics and makeup without further harm to your skin. The
application and removal of today's stubborn makeup often contribute to
numerous skin issues. However, with NuVsio, you get the best of both
worlds. You can maintain your regular makeup routines while
simultaneously healing and improving your skin.

2. What Has Been Your Biggest Challenge?

Marketing, oh, marketing! It's a monumental task to introduce a new
technology into a market dominated by well-established, often colossal
players. Communicating your message clearly, concisely, and powerfully
in a world filled with viral content and relentless media noise is an
incredibly challenging endeavor. When your product is revolutionary, the
difficulty level only amplifies.

I've received a great deal of assistance in this area, and I've made a
deliberate choice to uphold the highest ethical standards in our
marketing efforts. This decision, in some ways, has held us back, as
we've opted not to resort to fear-based marketing tactics. We're in a
constant state of learning, striving to inform and educate individuals
about the groundbreaking technology behind NuVsio. Achieving this
ethically demands patience and unwavering determination, all with the
hope that we're doing the right thing in the right way.

3. What Is Your Favourite Aspect Of The Industry?

First and foremost, it's a remarkable industry filled with positive and
supportive individuals, especially female entrepreneurs. I've had the
privilege of crossing paths with countless kind-hearted souls who have
generously assisted me in ways that I can never fully repay. Their
altruistic desire to help and witness my success has left a lasting
impression. Given the challenges inherent in starting and running a
business, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to pay this kindness
forward to other deserving entrepreneurs.

Secondly, this industry is all about enhancing the outward appearances
of individuals, a critical aspect of our daily social lives. When I
receive notes of gratitude and see the before-and-after photos from our
clients who have experienced profound and long-lasting transformations,
my heart is deeply moved. I understand the feeling of being burdened by
problematic skin and the incredible boost in confidence that comes when
that seemingly permanent burden is lifted. In my office, I've created a
wall adorned with these notes of appreciation, almost like a collection
of fortune cookie messages. Whenever I find myself feeling down,
sluggish, or defeated, I read a random selection of these thank you
notes, and without fail, my energy is restored.

4. How Has The Industry Changed In The Last Year?

In the past year, the industry has undergone a significant
transformation, marked by a growing preference for multi-tasking
products. Skinimalism and the streamlining of skincare routines have
remained top priorities, especially in the wake of the pandemic.

Beauty holds a pivotal place in the realm of self-care, and the
transition from 2023 to 2024 will witness a growing emphasis on products
that bridge the gap between beauty and health. This shift will spotlight
clinical skincare products with a microbiome-centric focus and the rise
of personalized vitamins and supplements, as consumers enthusiastically
adopt a holistic approach to wellness.

Under this "wellness-first beauty" paradigm, there will be a surge in
demand for complexion products that accentuate a healthy and vibrant
appearance. Consumers will be drawn to products that radiate the aura of
vitality and well-being, prioritizing the pursuit of a fresh and
wholesome complexion.

5. What Is Your Go To Ingredient?

There isn't really a single "go-to" ingredient; instead, there's a
crucial insight that serves as your cornerstone. When you grasp the
concept that your skin is a living, three-dimensional community composed
of your cells and other microcellular entities, you hold the
foundational knowledge for nurturing skin health. It's akin to realizing
that you're not dancing alone; you must now embrace and care for your
previously invisible dance partner. I also like to use the analogy of a
garden full of flowers to describe the skin and its vital microbiome –
it requires tending.

That said, I'd like to share two "don't go to" ingredients. First, avoid
harsh cleansers and cleaning agents. Try to minimize their use, both in
terms of the products you apply and the tenacious makeup that
necessitates these harsh cleansers. (We've developed a revolutionary
gentle, oil-based cleanser for this very reason.)

The second "don't go to" ingredient is preservatives. You can bypass
these by using a high-quality moisturizing pure oil, like Jojoba, which
closely resembles your skin's natural sebum and has a calming effect.
Our mineral-enriched balm concentrate is a moisturizer and skin
protectant based on pure Jojoba oil, containing no water or
preservatives. We've supercharged it with essential minerals to
significantly enhance the skin's protective properties, introducing
various additional factors for skin protection and nourishment.

In skincare, it's often not just about what to use but also what to
avoid that's crucial.
